The Democratic Primary is September 14th. Your vote is needed and here’s why —

Dear Redding Democrats,

Your vote is needed twice this election season: first the Democratic Primary September 14th, and then the General Election in November.

As Democrats, our “big tent party” means there is room for many voices and ideas—and that is true here in our own small town too.

This back and forth is where the work gets done to enact the policies that help improve our lives. This give and take, the heart of a healthy democracy, is where we find solutions to the issues we face, and build consensus for a better future.

In contrast to these democratic ideals, the Republican National Committee, with the help of dark money groups, is executing its plan to target local elections this year, which will set up 2022 and 2024 in their favor. Our town has been targeted with mailers that attempt to sow misinformation and fear about our elected officials’ work. This strategy has little to do with what is best for Redding citizens, and more to do with returning the Republican Party to power at the national level.

So it is not surprising that we have a Republican candidate running for First Selectman of Redding for the first time in many years. We also have a contested race for a seat on our Region 9 School Board.

This is why it is so important for Democrats to show strength and unity this year right out of the gates, and vote for their choice of Democratic candidate for First Selectman in the Party Primary September 14th. Democracy requires us to act, and the ballot box is where the fight to keep right-wing partisan agendas out of our schools, and off our boards, begins.

The polls are open to all registered Democrats in Redding on September 14th at the Redding Community Center, from 6am to 8pm. Be sure to stop by the Democratic Town Committee’s tent so we can say hello, and tell you about all of our candidates on the ballot November 2nd. At our July meeting, which also served as the Party Caucus this year, the Democratic Town Committee voted to endorse a slate of candidates, which we share with you here.

We need your active participation in the life of our Party. So we ask you to vote in the Primary on September 14th in support of your chosen candidate, and in the General Election on November 2nd for our entire slate, and help keep Redding the best small town in Connecticut.
