Volunteer Redding Board of Ed

A Democrat is needed to fill an important vacancy on the Redding Board of Education ("BOE") through November 7, 2023, at which time the balance of the term will be filled by municipal election.

A Republican member of the BOE has stepped down and the Democrats have an opportunity to fill that seat. The BOE intends to fill the position at its September 6th meeting.

Please submit your statement of interest to ReddingDems@gmail.com by Monday, August 15th. Interviews will be held by the DTC's Nominating Committee through August 17th. On August 18th, the DTC will vote on who to recommend for BOE consideration.

About the Board:

The BOE meets on the first Tuesday of every month with additional meetings at budget time or as otherwise necessary. Committees of the board meet generally on an as needed basis. The September meeting will be held on Tuesday the 6th.

It is a working board that is tasked with governance of schools within the Redding school district, which is prek-grade 8 plus qualifying students age 3+ with special needs. The board meets as a whole approximately 20 times per year with the highest frequency during the January to March timeframe and whenever there is an active hiring process or labor negotiation. The board sets policy and budget and is responsible for selecting and evaluating the superintendent in partnership with the Easton and Region 9 boards.
